Studio Journal 9

New painting:
Once again, I'm in the process of using string in order to inform the geometry and organization of the painting. This painting was the product of four different string webs. I've switched to a white string, which I think works much better with the painting. You still get the sense of line floating on top of form, but the systems seem balanced. Before the string was definitely overpowering. I also really like the string breaking free of its container. It suggests a never ending process. I've also been playing with the reductive process much more. I like the idea of my paintings being like fingerprints. They smudge, they wipe off, leaving the residue of step after step. Something like that.... I don't know.
