Studio Journal 4

This week in studio: New wall installation started, new painting, and finished work for Chance show

This is in its early stages, a wall installation created for my Drawing 1 class which very closely follows my body of work for Adv. painting / thesis. The assignment is to discuss our view of the world today, referencing Unknown, Confusion, Simultaneity, Pessimism, and Convenience. Basically, I'm dealing with industry and the harsh bustle of modern life. More to come...

Above: finished Chance piece. Turned 90 degrees (at random) Feeling satisfied with it for now.

Above: Brainstorm piece for Drawing project, very industrial, very unfinished.

Studio Journal 2

Still continuing with the most recent series, but I replaced the silver screws with black tacks and black staples. The staples make it easy to manipulate existing lines to extenuate the form. Also, the plaster board is an interesting surface to work on. Next I will work directly on the wall. But, I don't think the painted uniform background is working as well as the more active red background of my last piece. Although, I like that the white space isn't static.

This piece is the largest I've worked and it is directly on the wall. I just started it today so there's a lot to be done. So far, it has one string that runs from the wall into the viewer's space. Not sure if I like that yet. I think it was a mistake not to work from a source so I'm probably going to take it down and start again. But before I do that, I'll play around with it a little more.
