Studio Journal 7

New work!

Not completed, but in progress. I'm really focusing on the reductive process and constantly rebuilding the web and the shapes I've created in order to leave a footprint of the process. I've been looking a lot at Amy Sillman and Joanne Greenbaum.

Studio Journal 6

This journal is coming in late, but last week was crazy. I shot and edited a video for a class, shown below. Also, started collaborating on an installation (very early stages). More to come.

Here's a picture of a fluxus project I completed. It's basically massive Jenga with fluxus scores on each block. The loser has to perform a score. Materials: floral foam blocks, wrapping paper

This is a sort of net I made. It was an attempt to explore more sculptural work in the context of yarn forming space.

Here is my lovely finger knit hammer. I'm considering covering an entire tool shed in yarn

Studio Journal 6

So, this was not a productive week. But, I do have a project idea that I will be starting very soon. Basically, it will be a combination of the two images below in a wall installation. I am hoping to create a massive system of webs colliding on top of a very large drawing which will follow the pattern below. It should be an interesting play on space within 2D and 3D planes. There is much to be resolved within it. Also, idea 2 in the works, I want to create a a wall piece from only items found in a bathroom. Right now I'm collecting toothbrushes, floss, floss picks, etc. We'll see where that goes...

Studio Journal 5

This week in the studio...

Completed: wall installation for Drawing 1. I'm fairly pleased with it. I apologize for the poor photo quality, having a hard time getting a descent shot of this piece. But, basically, it is best described as a crystalized urban virus. Within the space, it feels very invasive. I really like the subtle mimicry of forms and lines within it. Also, it contains a lot of false shadows and other small touches which make it pretty interesting. I think soon I'm going to sign out one of the 2nd floor installation rooms and explore this idea once again but with a better palette and with some material other than yarn.

So, first attempt away from yarn: pearlescent purple twine. It's shiny, holds a bizarre shape, and reminds me of Disney Princesses. Ha, not sure what to do with it yet but I like the possibilities. It's hard to see it due to the other 2 wall installations around it. Here are some more views:
